NEWTOWN – A town native whose father and grandfather have both served as first selectman announced plans Tuesday to seek Newtown’s highest elected office.
Dan Rosenthal went on Facebook Live Tuesday, saying he was seeking the Democratic nomination for first selectman. He joins a trio of Republican candidates who have already said they are running to replace four-term GOP First Selectman Pat Llodra, who is retiring at the end of her term in November.
“We have this terrific community with a great school system, great public safety and a great spirit of volunteerism,” said Rosenthal, 44, whose father, Herb Rosenthal, is a former five-term first selectman and currently serves on the three-member Board of Selectmen. “We need to make ourselves more business-friendly and we need to ramp up how we communicate with the public.”
Rosenthal’s move follows Llodra’s announcement last week that she would not seek a fifth term – news that brought praise from state and federal officials for her leadership after the Sandy Hook massacre.
